Laa  Ilaaha Illa Allaah  
There is no god except God


The above statement is by far the most important statement you may ever read in your life, simply because a firm belief in it could free your soul now and forever, but free it from what ? from Satan's control.




Let's reflect on the tool by which Satan recruits new subjects in his kingdom :


Al Shirk (Arabic) = Idolworship



[2:208] O you who believe, you shall embrace total submission; do not follow the steps of Satan, for he is your most ardent enemy.

Satan advocates sin, he doesn't stop at that, he continues his evil whispers leading you step by step to the edge of the cliff, untill you fall in idolworship.  He is not satisfied by you falling in minor sins because he knows that God has decreed mercy upon Himself , He forgives minor offenses, but He doesn't forgive idolworship (a state of total surrender to Satan).

[4:48] GOD does not forgive idolatry, but He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. Anyone who sets up idols beside GOD, has forged a horrendous offense.



What is Idolworship and why is it unforgivable  ?

The keyword to understanding it can be found in some verses, for example [2:256,257], [4:51,60,76],[5:60], this keyword is :


Al Taaghout  (Arabic) =  Extremes




Here are two verses from Quran to let you feel how crucial this keyword is ,

[16:36] We have sent a messenger to every community, saying, "You shall worship GOD, and avoid Al Taghout (Extremes, idols)." Subsequently, some were guided by GOD, while others were committed to straying. Roam the earth and note the consequences for the rejectors.

[39:17] As for those who avoid Al Taghout (Extremes, idols) and avoid worshipping them, and devote themselves totally to GOD alone, they have deserved happiness. Give good news to My servants.


The word ( Al Taaghout ) in Arabic comes from the root word ( Taghaa ) which is actually a verb meaning ( to transgress ),  God uses this word frequently in His book to describe the wicked, they are transgressing people, God also stresses on the command : do not to transgress in the balance, the balance is also a word used to describe Quran, the book by which we can maintain our balance and avoid transgressions,

[42:17] GOD is the One who sent down the scripture, to deliver the truth and the balance (the law). For all that you know, the Hour (Day of Judgment) may be very close.


[55:7] He constructed the sky and established the balance (the law).

[55:8] You shall not transgress in the balance (the law).

[55:9] You shall do the weighing equitably (establish justice); do not manipulate the balance (violate the law).


The balance (the law) by which we can judge and decide, is detailed in Quran, by using it we can balance our lives and avoid the extremes of transgression (Al Taaghout), in the last verse we see another important word (Al Wazn) which comes from the same root word as ( Al Meezaan = The Balance), this word means ( AlWazn = The Weighing), the process of weighing things against each other and deciding which decision to make using the balance (Quran) is the only purpose of religion, God gave us a sign linking the two words together,

Weighing (AlWazn) [55:9] has a total gematrical value of  = 3 + 65 + 39 + 25 + 89 = 221

Religion ( AlDeen) has the same TGV = 3 + 65 + 16 + 48 + 89 = 221

Thus emphasising the fact that religion is actually a way to weigh different options in order to reach a decision concerning the tests God puts you in.


Why does God warn us from Extremes ?



Extremes are the mechanisms of idolworship which God warns us from, Satan uses these mechanisms to recruit new followers, extreme love (attraction), and extreme fear or hate (repulsion). Idols are called extremes in Quran because of the extreme emotion attached with it in the heart of the idolworshipers.

Extreme 1, too much Love :

[2:165] Yet, some people set up idols to rival GOD, and love them as if they are GOD. Those who believe love GOD the most. If only the transgressors could see themselves when they see the retribution! They will realize then that all power belongs to GOD alone, and that GOD's retribution is awesome.

This extreme has been used over and over again by Satan along the history to make the people idolize their saints, prophets and messengers, a more prevalent form of idolizing human beings nowadays is idolizing celebrities, presidents, spouses and even bosses at work, what does that mean ? it means that whenever you consider a human being as the source of his God given power ( looks, beauty, skill, authority, charm, kindness, knowledge...etc ) you automaticaly become stuck in him, he turns into an idol with you revolving around him or her in an orbit, totally forgetting about the real source of all power, God, thus turning unappreciative towards God and His blessings that He bestows upon you through things and people. Being unappreciative is the very thing that Satan wants from duping the people by turning them away from God.

-Satan said to God :

[7:17] "I will come to them from before them, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left, and You will find that most of them are unappreciative."

This extreme led some people even to carve statues depicting dead humans or things and start worshipping them instead of God.

Material things can also be idolized, actually all the components of life can be idolized (people, animals, and things), too much love for money turns it into an idol rivaling God who created it, too much love creates a bond between you and the thing or person you are idolizing, while the only legitimate bond is between us and God alone.

Too much love of one's own ego can turn it into a god besides God, too much love for a position, fame, power..etc could also turns them into idols, gods beside God.
Nobody and nothing can benefit you, only God can.


Extreme 2, too much hate or fear :

[4:77] Have you noted those who were told, "You do not have to fight; all you need to do is observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat)," then, when fighting was decreed for them, they feared the people as much as they feared GOD, or even more? They said, "Our Lord, why did You force this fighting on us? If only You respite us for awhile!" Say, "The materials of this world are nil, while the Hereafter is far better for the righteous, and you never suffer the slightest injustice."

This is the other face of the same coin, idolworship. Too much hate for somebody or something can easily turn him, her or it into an idol, a center around which you start revolving in an orbit, the direct result of this hate or fear is unjustifiable agression, oppression, bullying and even war.

[3:175] It is the devil's system to instill fear into his subjects. Do not fear them and fear Me instead, if you are believers.

[5:91] The devil wants to provoke animosity and hatred among you through intoxicants and gambling, and to distract you from remembering GOD, and from observing the Contact Prayers (Salat). Will you then refrain?


Nobody and nothing can harm you, only God can.



Why does Satan want us to fall in these extremes ? :

[36:60] Did I not covenant with you, O Children of Adam, that you shall not worship the devil? That he is your most ardent enemy?

[34:40,41] On the day when He summons them all, He will say to the angels, "Did these people worship you?", -  They will answer, "Be You glorified. You are our Lord and Master, not them. Instead, they were worshiping the jinns; most of them were believers therein."


The end idol hiding behind these apparent idols and extremes is Satan and his descendants, the Jinn beings ( invisible creatures who occupy the same bodies with us as our companions propagating Satan's point of view, some of them may be influenced by the resistance of their righteous human companion and thus turn righteous ), he uses these handy tools (extreme love, hate and fear) to bind us in slavery to something or someone else than God, thus stripping us from any defense against his Satanic agenda.  When someone falls in idolworship ( which means being stuck in something or someone, unable to see God behind it, him or her),  he looses control of himself, and start wronging his soul by leaving the steering wheel to his Jinn companion, who has no boundaries, values or sense of right and wrong, he would then do anything to achieve his lust or satisfy his extreme. Both of the idolworshiping human and his Jinn companion (or master, temporary god) share the same fate, hell.

[6:128]  The day will come when He summons all of them (and says): "O you jinns, you have claimed multitudes of humans." Their human companions will say, "Our Lord, we enjoyed each others' company until we wasted the life span You had set for us." He will say, "Hell is your destiny." They abide therein forever, in accordance with GOD's will. Your Lord is Wise, Omniscient.

To make it easier to understand how dangerous is idolworship, lets consider this example, a gambler (his center, idol  is money) asks his neighbor to accompany his pregnant wife to the hospital for an urgent delievery so that he could catch a horse race !, the examples could get more serious and much worse, putting the person and all those around him in danger, because he has lost control of himself , and passed the steering wheel to Satan, and the destination ofcourse is hell .

Addictions are obvious forms of idolworship, for the sake of satisfying your addiction, your devil (or devils) can find you all kinds of excuses to justify the wrong decisions you make, same like the gambler who chose to enjoy the race instead of being there when his wife needed his support most !.

This life is but a demonstration of how powerless is Satan and the Jinn devils whom people idolize and seek satisfaction from,

[22:12,13] He idolizes beside GOD what possesses no power to harm him or benefit him; such is the real straying. - He idolizes what is more apt to harm him than benefit him. What a miserable lord! What a miserable companion!

Some righteous Jinns in Quran testified against their fellow Jinn devils,

[72:6] " Human beings used to seek power through jinn beings, but they only afflicted them with a lot of adversity.


It is God's system that no satisfaction whatsoever can be gained from indulging in the extremes, since the Jinn devils (and their master Satan) can grant nothing through the idols they promote,

[24:39] As for those who disbelieve, their works are like a mirage in the desert. A thirsty person thinks that it is water. But when he reaches it, he finds that it is nothing, and he finds GOD there instead, to requite him fully for his works. GOD is the most efficient reckoner.

This is the hell that God says is surrounding the disbelievers already, the just requital for disregarding God, the only God, the only source of power, the only source of benefit or harm.

[9:49] Some of them would say, "Give me permission (to stay behind); do not impose such a hardship on me." In fact, they have thus incurred a terrible hardship; Hell is surrounding the disbelievers.



Does that mean love, hate and fear are harmful ?

No, only when the thing or person turns into an end in itself does the harm begin, in God's system everything of His creation is a means to reach Him, all the things and the components of life are signs to feel His majesty, reach to Him and reverence Him more.

God gives the meaning to everything and everyone, without Him in our minds always, we cannot really enjoy anything, it becomes a series of temporary pleasures and unsatisfied lusts, that's why God says that the disbelievers are already in hell .

There are two kinds of persons, the seers, and the blind, the first kind can see God behind everything and everyone thus enjoy the feeling of being appreciative to God, as for the blind, they can't see beyond the apparent, the obvious, they are stuck in the creatures, their idols, blinded by the illusion. God calls this apparent life just an illusion and Satan promises only an illusion, you think it has power in itself to satisfy your needs, but actually it hasn't.  The hereafter is the real thing that we should work for. As for the blind who fail to take heed by the reminders, God promises them hell fire, as for the seers who worship God alone, they have deserved the gardens of bliss, and happiness now and forever.

[30:7] They care only about things of this world that are visible to them, while being totally oblivious to the Hereafter.

[35:5] O people, GOD's promise is the truth; therefore, do not be distracted by this lowly life. Do not be diverted from GOD by mere illusions.

[4:120] He promises them and entices them; what the devil promises is no more than an illusion.




[13:16] Say, "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say, "GOD." Say, "Why then do you set up besides Him masters who do not possess any power to benefit or harm even themselves?" Say, "Is the blind the same as the seer? Is darkness the same as the light?" Have they found idols besides GOD who created creations similar to His creations, to the point of not distinguishing the two creations? Say, "GOD is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme."


To be able to maintain the balance in everything, in our relationship and dealings with people and things, to be able to relate the power (beauty, skill, knowledge...etc) to God instead of the apparents, in order to stay free from the illusion and to reach perfect happiness now and forever, God sent us a reminder, a book in which all the wisdom and guidance we need is fully detailed, this book is Quran and the religion we follow is the creed of Abraham, Submission to God alone, the only purpose of our creation.


[51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.
