"Just before 6 a.m. Saturday our ship was struck by what the captain called a ''freak wave'' unlike any he had ever seen. It was a single wall so large that it crashed over the bow more than 70 feet above water level, smashing windows on the ninth and 10th decks. Four people got cuts and bruises. That single wave flooded 62 cabins. A passenger in one of those cabins later described the foot of water that filled her room and the feeling of panic as she left her bed and stepped into the cold sea water. " NJ.com "It was horrible," Moschetta, 64, said yesterday after disembarking in Manhattan, lugging a suitcase and looking frayed. "You know, your whole life goes in front of you when you're laying there. Everything was falling all over the place." Dozens of passengers from the storm-battered ship told tales of fear, horror and adventure on the high seas as they arrived at the pier on the Hudson River yesterday. "It was very, very scary," said Janet Vadala of Wayne, who was traveling with her husband Gary Mould and their children, Ian, 9, and Ashley, 14. "I thought I was going to die. Our beds were shifting all night, sliding around." Despite the drama, only four passengers suffered minor injuries. The ship owners said the vessel's integrity was never threatened. |
